Sustainable Building Solutions’ Project, The 2100 Urban Residences, Wins 2019 USGBC Leadership Award for Innovative Project, Residential
The United State Green Building Council (USGBC) – Wisconsin recently held their annual Transformation Awards that recognizes individuals, groups and organizations championing sustainable practices and driving market transformation within Wisconsin’s built environment.
Sustainable Building Solutions (SBS), recent project THE 2100 Urban Residences was given an award of merit in the Innovative Residences category.
THE 2100 is an outstanding example of an innovative mid-rise residential project. It is one of only three market-rate apartment projects in Metro Milwaukee to have received LEED certification and is the first such suburban project. It is noteworthy that THE 2100 involved adaptive re-use of a difficult in-fill site in a pioneering location for a multifamily.
The 2100 brought a comprehensive team together to make it a success. Contributions were made by the City of Wauwatosa, neighbors from the immediate area, the architect (AG Architecture), the general contractor (Altius Building Company), the financing team (Berkadia Commercial Mortgage LLC and HUD), Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District, E3 Group, Sustainable Building Solutions, TJH Energy Consulting and the developers.
The building was LEED BD+C Homes Certified Gold and Phil Vetterkind, Director of Sustainable Building Solutions, served as LEED Coordinator and consultant on the project. Phil has been a consultant on all three of the market-rate apartment projects in the area.
