Sustainable Building Solutions™ provided LEED project administration services from early in the design process through completion of construction services for LEED-ND and LEED for Homes certification for Torti Gallas and Partners Inc. and The Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee for Phase II of the Westlawn Gardens neighborhood development.
Westlawn Gardens is a 75-acre public housing neighborhood located between North 60th and North 68th Streets and Silver Spring Drive on Milwaukee’s northwest side. Hunzinger Construction Company was selected by the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee to serve as construction manager Advisor for this major neighborhood transformation designed by Torti Gallas and Partners, Inc., of Washington D.C and Kindness Architecture and Planning, located in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.
Phase II of Westlawn Gardens: The City of Milwaukee and the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee were awarded a $30 million Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant to redevelop the Westlawn public housing development and revitalize the surrounding Westlawn neighborhood. The Transformation Plan includes the redevelopment of 708 new mixed income housing units, including 394 replacement units, both on the Westlawn site and in the surrounding neighborhood. In addition, the plan includes strategic investments to improve the entire neighborhood by reducing the negative effects of foreclosures, improving access to retail and transportation, and strengthening families’ health and employment.
Westlawn Gardens Phase II is seeking LEED for Neighborhood Development v4 certification, Energy Star v3, and multiple LEED for Homes v4 certifications for the development.
